According to police reports, police and the Punta Gorda Fire and Charlotte County EMS arrived at a house around 2 p.m. on Saturday after a woman had called requesting an ambulance. Once at the home, police claim a woman in her mid-20s told them she had been sexually assaulted and held against her will at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

Detectives apparently investigated the incident and allegedly discovered that the woman’s 37-year-old boyfriend solicited sex from her and, when she refused, he allegedly threatened her.

The woman claims she attempted to flee, but was thrown to the ground, sexually assaulted, threatened and told not to leave the house.

According to reports, man apparently left the home shortly after 2 p.m. and the woman was able to leave the home and call the police.

The man was arrested late Saturday afternoon and charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment. He is currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail with no bond.

Sexual battery or rape is considered the forceful and deliberate touching of someone sexually without their permission. This offense can involve many different crimes, including forced kissing, unwelcome sexual contact, not allowing a sexual partner to refuse an intimate act or sexual torment. Florida law views sexual battery on a partner or spouse as a very serious crime, and prosecutors aggressively pursue convictions. Even if consenting sexual intimacy occurred previously, if a partner accuses you of sexual battery, police will investigate. A sexual battery conviction can result in prison time, harsh fines and mandatory registration as a sex offender in state and national databases.
