Lakeland Therapist Facing Sex Charges Against Patients
A Lakeland psychotherapist has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting two patients.
The 71-year-old was arrested Tuesday at his office in Lakeland.
According to Lakeland Police, two of the man’s patient’s called to report inappropriate touching and groping by the man during a therapy session.
Police apparently sent one of the patients back to the office for another session – this time while wearing a wire.
The arrest affidavit claims the man was recorded talking about his version of Eastern medicine therapy that included “pelvic floor stimulation,” skin-to-skin massages” and rubbing of private parts from the breasts to the inside of the upper thighs.
The man was arrested after the session.
Both patients claim the man spoke to them about eastern medicine therapy and his four levels of treatment for months. According to the arrest report, the man told the women they had to get used to his touching them so he could help them with their issues.
The man is facing two counts of a psychotherapist engaging in sex with a client. He could face up to 15 years in prison.
Allegations of sexual misconduct are taken very serious in Florida. A conviction for sexual assault may result in years in prison, large fines and in most cases those convicted will be made to register as a sex offender. Being a registered sex offender is sometimes worse than the time spent behind bars. Sex offenders have trouble finding employment, suitable housing, and they have little to no privacy, as all of their personal information is listed on the sex offender registry for anyone who wants to find it.
