Arizona 6th Grade Teacher Accused of Sex with Teen Student
A teacher at an Arizona elementary school has been arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with a student.
The 27-year-old was taken into custody Thursday morning.
Police said they were notified by the school’s principal Wednesday night.
They say the allegations were brought to the principal by the parent of the 13-year-old boy, who reported finding text messages between the teacher and the boy.
The teacher is accused of having sex with the boy in both the classroom and in her car since Feb. 1.
Police also claim the pair traded sexually explicit texts, and that she also sent naked pictures of herself to him.
A teacher can be prosecuted for a sexual offense even if sexual acts with a student are consensual. Like any sex crime, a teacher who is convicted of having sex with a student faces a lifetime of social stigma as a registered sex offender on top of jail time and other consequences. Even if a teacher is not found guilty of having sex with a student, their career could be over as the media heavily reports on these cases and the mere accusation of such misconduct leads most to believe that he or she cannot be trusted in a position of authority over children.
