Alleged Child Porn on Facebook Leads to Arrest of ADT Employee

A child pornography video clip uploaded to Facebook recently led to the arrest of a Clay County man who works for ADT Security Services, authorities said.

The 30-year-old Orange Park man was booked Thursday into the Clay County jail on two counts of possession of child pornography and a count of transmission of pornography by electronic device, jail records show. Jail logs show the man remained in custody as of Friday morning.

The charges stem from an internet sex crimes investigation that began in December, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the man’s arrest report, the investigation uncovered a video clip depicting sexual abuse of a child that was uploaded to Facebook from somewhere in Clay County. The report stated that AT&T records subpoenaed as part of the investigation matched the IP address from the video to a physical address listed in Harris’ name.

On Dec. 3, deputies served a search warrant at the man’s home, according to a copy of the heavily redacted arrest report. Investigators said other people who were found at the home denied any knowledge of the material. The man agreed to speak with deputies, but the content of their conversation was redacted from the report.

According to the report, the man is employed by ADT Security Services, a company that provides surveillance camera services to businesses and individuals. Investigators said they do not believe the charges are linked to his employment, nor do they think the children depicted in the video are local.

Just being accused of a child pornography crime is enough to ruin a person’s reputation. An experienced child pornography defense lawyer is aboslutely imperative to ensure that false accusations are knocked down and all possible defense strategies are explored.

Child porn cases usually start with a raid by law enforcement officers who will obtain search warrants to ransack your home or business and seize computers, hard drives, cell phones, flash drives, DVD players, smartphones, and any other electronic device that can store digital images or videos. The investigations generally continue after the initial raid for a long period of time, making suspects question whether any charges will be brought. If you have been arrested, or are under investigation for any type of child pornography charges, it is critical to reach out to our Florida Child Pornography Defense Attorneys at Whittel & Melton immediately. Far too often in these types of cases, we see those who have been contacted by law enforcement or who have had their property confiscated, fail to retain legal counsel. We cannot reiterate how much of a mistake this is. There are many steps that must be taken to make sure your rights are protected.

Child pornography charges can include:

  • Production
  • Possession
  • Distribution

There are numerous child pornography cases that involve significant investigations before any arrests are made or formal charges are filed. This is especially true when it comes to offenses that involve the sharing of child pornography on the internet. Peer-to-peer file sharing programs allow users to share files that may contain child pornography, and tracking how these files are distributed often requires months of technical analysis.

We urge anyone who may be under investigation to not make the mistake of waiting until they are charged with a specific offense before talking to a lawyer. Early intervention is critical during the investigation phase and can impact how the case is ultimately resolved. In some cases, our sex crimes defense lawyers may be able to prevent charges from being filed against you at all. If you suspect that you are under investigation for a child pornography-related crime or have been questioned by police but not charged, you need to speak to a lawyer as soon as possible.

Our Florida Child Porn Defense Attorneys at Whittel & Melton can provide you with the sound guidance you need throughout the investigation and all the way through to a trial. In some cases, child pornography investigations fizzle out due to false accusations or mistaken downloads. Illegal files can easily end up on devices through viruses, spam email, and even after letting a friend or family member borrow your device. We can thoroughly analyze the evidence against you and push to have the charges dropped. IN certain cases, it may be possible to have any evidence of child porn suppressed, which means that it cannot be used against you in court. Without access to the child pornography itself, prosecutors are generally forced to drop their case. Whatever the circumstances surrounding your arrest, we can help.
