Tallahassee police arrested a former FSU linebacker on Monday for his second arrest in less than two years. He allegedly sexually assaulted a Tallahassee woman and supposed girlfriend and then threatened suicide.
He was charged with sexual battery and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
The woman was allegedly raped multiple times Friday evening after she let the former football star into her apartment. An arrest affidavit shows that the two had a previous relationship and that the woman’s relations with another man may have fueled the former football player’s actions.
According to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the man reportedly showed up at the woman’s apartment around 11:30 p.m. on Friday night and begged her to let him in. She let him in and they supposedly talked for a bit and she fell asleep on a couch while the man slept on the floor.
The victim evidently woke up to a naked man going through her cell phone. The man allegedly became angry and forced himself on the woman a total of six times before leaving her apartment around noon on Saturday.
The victim filed a report Saturday and an investigator made a controlled call to the man with her present. The man allegedly admitted he raped the woman and knew it was wrong via the telephone conversation.
On Sunday, the victim supposedly called the investigator letting him know she received a call from the former football player that he was atop a parking garage on FSU’s campus, threatening to jump from the top floor. FSU police evidently found the man in his boxer shorts, the rest of his clothes were thrown off the building. He was taken into custody around midnight where he was formally charged and arrested.
The former FSU football player was arrested in 2009 for grand theft auto, possessing a vehicle with altered license plate numbers and a non-moving traffic violation. Two were felonies, one a misdemeanor.
In the United States alone, it is estimated that someone is sexually assaulted every two minutes. More than 66 percent of women raped know their attacker and it has been found that 70 percent of all rapes involve drugs or alcohol.
In Florida, rape is referred to as sexual battery and is a very serious sex crime that involves nonconsensual intercourse. If convicted of sexual battery, harsh sentencing guidelines will enforce mandatory prison time. A rape conviction also carries a penalty of registration as a sex offender and a felony record, which will influence where you can live and what type of career you can have. As a registered sex offender you will have to notify law enforcement and possibly your neighbors every time you move or change jobs.
