Authorities said a registered sex offender was found hiding in a plastic storage bin at a Bayonet Point home.
The 37-year-old was found on Tuesday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
He was found after a Crime Stoppers tip, authorities said. The storage bin was located inside the home’s garage, according to investigators.
The man was charged with sex offender failure to register and resisting arrest without violence.
Two people at the home, were charged with harboring a sex offender.
A third person inside the home, was arrested on a drug charge.
When you are convicted of a sex offense in Florida, one of the consequences is that you may be required to register as sex offender. Depending on the circumstances of your conviction, this label can follow you for years, and possibly for the rest of your life.
The sex offender registry collects the names, photographs, addresses, job information, vehicle information, and other details about convicted sex offenders living in Florida. White it may seem unfair that your personal information is made public due to your conviction, failure to register can result in some stiff consequences, including more time behind bars, revocation of your probation or parole and hefty fines.
If you have been charged with failure to register as a sex offender in Florida, it is important that you don’t just ignore this charge. There may be possible defenses to help your situation, such as you may have thought you were in compliance or there are various circumstances that prevented you from fulfilling the registration requirements. Our Florida Sex Crimes Defense Lawyers at Whittel & Melton can plead your case in court and fight to get your charge dismissed or your penalties reduced.
