Pinellas County Probation Officer Accused of Having Sex with Offender

A state probation officer has been fired after being arrested on a charge of sexual misconduct involving an offender under his supervision, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

The 40-year-old state correctional probation officer was arrested Thursday at a Tarpon Springs Department of Corrections office by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and subsequently charged with felony sexual misconduct. FDLE agents said they received a citizen complaint that the man had a sexual relationship with a probationer he supervised.

According to an arrest report, a woman was sentenced to state probation for dealing in stolen property Feb. 20, and her case was assigned to the accused. Agents said during the period from Feb. 20 through June 12, the man and the probationer engaged in oral and sexual intercourse on several occasions in Pinellas County.

During a sworn-recorded interview with FDLE agents Thursday, the man allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with the offender on at least three occasions, according to the report.

The man was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Friday on a $5,000 bond.

Sexual misconduct is charged when a person in a position of power enters into a sexual relationship with a person under their authority. Sexual misconduct refers to any sex crime. These crimes are prosecuted quite harshly in Florida, so you must take these charges seriously and fight aggressively to protect your reputation and freedom.

In addition to time in prison or jail, sex offender registration, and a criminal record, being convicted of sexual misconduct can result in the loss of your job or professional license.
