Pinellas County Neurosurgeon Accused of Sexually Battery on Patient

A Pinellas County neurosurgeon was recently accused of sexual battery on a female patient.

According to a Clearwater Police investigation, the patient was alone with the doctor in an exam room and was told to lie on her stomach.

The patient claims that during the back examination, the doctor sexually battered her.

When the patient questioned the man, she said he told her he was “checking for scar tissue.”

She claims the man forcefully kissed her.

The doctor allegedly admitted to initiating the sexual contact during police questioning.

The doctor was arrested early Wednesday morning and is now out of jail on $50,000 bond.

When a doctor is accused of sexual misconduct or any type of inappropriate behavior during a physical examination, this can lead to criminal charges of sexual assault or sexual battery. Criminal charges against doctors can pose licensing challenges, ranging from inappropriate touching to sexual relations with, or sexual abuse of, a patient.

The truth is that doctors are often targets of patient accusations, mostly due to a patient’s mental instability or disabilities, prescription drug problems, or sometimes just extortion. Regardless, these charges must be dealt with as soon as possible. There are many instances where a sex crimes defense lawyer can get these charges reduced or dismissed entirely without causing too much damage to a doctor’s reputation or family.

If you are facing serious sex crimes allegations, you must act quickly to preserve your rights. A Florida Sexual Battery Defense Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can help you fight these charges. Call us today at 866-608-5529 or contact us online for a free initial consultation.
