A 56-year-old Orange Park man was sentenced to seven years and six months in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the Internet.
A United States district judge also ordered the man to serve a 10-year term of supervised release, register as a sex offender, and pay $3,000 in restitution to one of the victims.
According to court documents, a Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent in Jacksonville began an undercover investigation to identify individuals in northeast Florida who were trading images and videos of child pornography over the Internet.
The agent apparently identified a computer that was hosting images of child pornography using a file sharing program and was able to download several of the files. A closer look into the files lead to police locating the host computer at the man’s home, according to reports.
Agents served a federal search warrant at the man’s residence and seized several computers and other electronic media. Forensic analyses of the man’s laptop revealed that it contained at least 211 videos depicting child pornography, including at least one video depicting the sexual abuse of a toddler.
This case was investigated by the FDLE, the FBI and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Pornography, as well as child porn, is rampant on the Internet. However, if you are caught downloading and viewing child pornography, you are looking at the very real possibility of lifetime registration as a sex offender if convicted. Sending images to someone over the Internet or sharing files, could result in not just felony charges, but extremely serious federal charges.
Federal and state laws dictate that it is illegal to produce, possess, distribute, or sell pornographic images that depict or exploit minors. Most child porn cases involve distribution through “peer to peer” types of sharing sources. These cases require a strong defense, as the consequences attached to a conviction are severe.
If you are facing charges of child pornography, you need an aggressive and experienced, criminal defense attorney.
