Belleview police took a 35-year-old man into custody Tuesday after he allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old girl.
On Oct. 2, authorities were apparently alerted that the minor was having sex with the man. The girl was interviewed and allegedly told a detective that she had engaged in sexual activity with the man in addition to performing a sexual act on him in a wooded area near her home.
The man denied having sex with the girl. A detective claims he did admit to having a sex act performed on him, but was told by the girl that she was 18 or 19.
He was charged with sexual battery and transported to the Marion County Jail.
According to court records, the man was adjudicated guilty for battery in April and placed on probation.
If you have been accused of or arrested for sexual battery in Marion County, you need a sex crimes defense attorney that can help you avoid the extremely harsh consequences that come along with a conviction. Many people facing allegations of sexual battery feel that they do not need a lawyer if they are innocent. However, this is simply not true. In fact, this is a huge mistake because regardless of your innocence, police and prosecutors will do whatever it takes to show that you are guilty of the crime just so that they can resolve the case quickly. Police will often make arrests before a case is even investigated thoroughly. The Florida Sex Crimes Attorneys at Whittel & Melton work aggressively to protect the rights of those accused of sexual battery. We understand that many false accusations are made by those that are vengeful, angry or jealous, which is why we believe you should have an opportunity to tell your side of the story.
A sexual battery conviction can result in a lengthy prison sentence and require you to register as a sexual offender or sexual predator for the rest of your life. That is why if are accused of or have already been arrested for sexual battery, you must act fast and contact the Florida Sex Crimes Attorneys at Whittel & Melton. The majority of these cases revolve around one person’s word against another’s. Remember, you have the right to remain silent and request a lawyer. If you do make a statement to police, you could make your situation worse.
