Miami Mans Arrest for Child Porn Part of Federal Crackdown on Sex Predators

A Miami man’s Oct. 21 arrest was one of several recent child pornography cases in South Florida, and across the country, that is a part of the war between federal authorities and child sex predators.

At least one child pornography-related warrant is issued every week in South Florida, according to U.S. officials.

According to officials, while investigators assigned to track down child sex predators seek out and arrest people for possessing or distributing pornography, their priority is also to locate and rescue the children who appear in the videos and pictures that the suspects possess and trade with each other.

This case is just one example of how U.S. officials are attempting to combat child pornography. Their strategy? This case started with an investigator checking the sharing of child pornography on an online network known as Ares, according to a criminal complaint filed by a special agent of Homeland Security Investigations, a unit of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Reports indicate that the investigator tracked down the Internet Protocol address to a one-story house in Little Havana, according to the complaint.

On Oct. 15, U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin G. Torres issued a warrant authorizing the search of the residence, according to the complaint.

Six days later, Homeland Security Investigations special agents and other law enforcement officers arrived at the address.

After a search of the house, agents claim they found a computer with movie files depicting child pornography.

The man allegedly confessed that he had downloaded the movies and videos, according to the complaint.

The 61-year-old is now awaiting trial in Miami federal court after pleading not guilty to child pornography charges on Nov. 10.

If you have been accused of a sex crime involving the Internet and child pornography, it is very important to contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer right away. As this case shows, prosecutors vigorously pursue convictions, and most charges involve lengthy time behind bars and mandatory registration as a sex offender.
