A 30-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on charges he forced a woman into prostitution, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The man is facing charges of human sex trafficking and false imprisonment, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and domestic violence battery.
Deputies arrived at the La Quinta Inn on U.S. 301 N on Tuesday afternoon where they believe a 32-year-old woman was being held by the man against her will.
Deputies allegedly found the man locked in a bathroom, holding a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol close, according to the Sheriff’s Office. While searching the hotel room, deputies claim they uncovered 190 grams of marijuana, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Federal and state law enforcement agencies are cracking down to reduce human trafficking by making an example out of anyone who is accused of being involved in human trafficking. Federal laws define human trafficking as controlling or otherwise exploiting individuals for profit. If you have been accused of a human trafficking or sex trafficking crime, the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were involved. A Human Trafficking Lawyer at Whittel & Melton will fight aggressively to increase reasonable doubt that you committed a crime or were involved in any illegal dealings.
