A Kissimmee Police officer was arrested and charged Tuesday with sexual misconduct.
The 32-year-old faces charges of sexual battery and receiving unlawful compensation for official behavior.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents began investigating the man in February 2016 at the request of the Kissimmee Police Department.
Agents claim that while the officer was arresting a female suspect, he engaged in sexual misconduct and continued to have sexual encounters both on and off duty.
He is also accused of using his position to call the State Attorney on behalf of the victim to ensure she got preferential treatment for her pending criminal case.
The Kissimmee Police Department issued this statement:
“It is extremely important our citizens and those who visit our community have complete trust in law enforcement professionals. The Kissimmee Police Department will take immediate action when an allegation of misconduct is made against any member of this agency, and will remain transparent in our process. These alleged actions do not represent the Kissimmee Police Department’s philosophy, nor should they be a reflection of the men and women who proudly serve our City.”
The man was booked into the Osceola County Jail on $25,500 bond and is on unpaid administrative leave.
Just being accused of sexual assault or any other type of sex crime can permanently damage your reputation, even if you are eventually cleared of the charges. It is important to have an experienced sex crimes defense lawyer on your side to make sure that your rights are protected.
A false sex crimes accusation can be just as detrimental to your reputation as legitimate sex offense charges. Sadly, people often assume that those accused of sex crimes are guilty, regardless of the evidence or the outcome of the case. You still need a defense lawyer to protect you even if you have not committed any crimes. A Florida Sex Crimes Defense Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can help you mount a powerful defense against these charges right away.
A sex crimes conviction could require you to register as a sex offender nationally and on Florida’s state sex offender registry. Being labeled a sex offender will follow you for life, and will most definitely affect your ability to get a job, find suitable housing and further your education.
