A 34-year-old female teacher at a Florida high school is accused of having an alleged sexual relationship with a male student.
The Brooksville teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a male student under age 17, according to reports.
Hernando County sheriff’s detectives received information about the relationship and interviewed the student. The student apparently told detectives that he had at least three sexual encounters with the woman at her home in Spring Hill.
When questioned by detectives, the woman allegedly admitted to having sex with the student five to six times.
Police also claim that both the woman and the student admitted to using marijuana and alcohol at the woman’s house. Both allegedly said that their relationship was consensual.
The woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Sex between teachers and students has been recently categorized as an epidemic sweeping our nation. While that is all debatable, it is certainly more common to see teachers being arrested these days than ever before. Under Florida laws, sexual relationships between teachers and minors is strictly prohibited. An educator can be convicted of a sex crime involving a student even if the relationship is consensual and the student is under the age of 18.
Allegations of an improper relationship between a student and teacher can lead to devastating consequences. The teacher could lose their job and teaching license, not to mention being publicly humiliated. Sex crimes accusations can wreak havoc on personal relationships and finances, as well carry serious legal consequences.
