A Gainesville man is accused of sexually battering a woman he possibly met at a bar in July. He was arrested Monday.
The 22-year-old was charged with sexual battery in connection with a July 8 incident, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report.
A woman told police she was at a bar with her roommate and had several alcoholic drinks. Her next memory was waking up the next morning at the man’s apartment naked in bed with him.
She did not know the man or recall meeting him. The woman asked the man if they had sexual activity. He initially said they did not but later said in text messages that they had, the report said.
A search warrant was served on the man’s apartment on July 25, where evidence was allegedly found to corroborate the women’s account.
Police reported the woman believes she had been drugged because she did not have more alcohol than she usually does. The report added that she has no reason to believe the man accused of sexually battery is the person who may have drugged her.
As Florida Sex Crimes Lawyers, we have seen many cases over the years where accusers may suffer from “night after regret,” even if the sex was consensual. Due to the false reasoning behind many sex crime allegations, a person can easily be charged with date rape after what was considered a one-night stand. Once this happens, it is imperative to secure legal representation immediately. Our Florida Saex Crimes Lawyers at Whittel & Melton can mount a personalized defense on your behalf and work to achieve a positive outcome for your sex crimes case.
We do not advise you facing these charges alone due to the sensitive nature of these crimes and the severe consequences attached to a conviction. Regardless of your innocence, your rights, freedoms, reputation and future are all at stake.
