Traffic Stop Results in Man Charged with Child Porn

A Tarpon Springs man has been charged with 100 counts of child porn possession following a routine traffic stop.

The 30-year-old was stopped in Tampa in late December for an expired tag. Police claim he was in possession of marijuana, but also a computer tablet with “copious amounts” of child pornography.

The arresting officer noticed the man making “furtive movements” after being asked about the tablet under his seat, according to reports.

A TPD spokesperson says the officer then turned on the tablet to see if it was stolen. Police say they noticed what appeared to be a picture of child porn.

The man denied the tablet was his.

After a search warrant, police allegedly found pornography involving children as young as two years old.

The man is being held on $100,000 at the Pinellas County Jail.

Florida is a state in which the laws governing illegal sexual activity are extremely strict. Police usually err on the side of protecting the public, and not the accused, which is why sex crime charges, and even allegations of any kind, must be taken seriously. A mere accusation can be quite damaging, so you must be proactive in finding a criminal defense lawyer who can effectively advocate on your behalf.

A Florida Child Pornography Defense Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can help you with the charges you are facing. While possessing or downloading child pornography is illegal, there are situations where the pornography was not downloaded intentionally, or the person downloading was unaware that it was pornography. These are facts that must be established to construct an effective defense. You need aggressive representation when it comes to child porn to address the charges and accusations, and prevent yourself from being forced to register as a sex offender, which can affect every aspect of your life from gaining housing and a job to being allowed to participate in certain community activities.
