A Sunrise, Florida man accused of possessing child pornography was ordered held on $100,000 bond Wednesday during his first court appearance.

The 50-year-old car salesman is charged with 40 counts of possession of child porn and possession of marijuana. Police arrested the man Tuesday.

According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office report, the alleged victims were boys between the ages of 6 and 15 years old and were apparently engaged in sex acts with other children or adult men.

An investigation launched last month by a BSO detective and a member of the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led to the man’s arrest.

The report indicates that the man’s IP address was tracked down for allegedly advertising and sharing child porn starting in February.

The IP address was linked to the man’s home in Sunrise. Police executed a search warrant Tuesday.

Police allegedly uncovered two computers and a large collection of CD’s and DVD’s from the man’s home. The video files were apparently made from September 2007 through July 2012.

According to detectives, the man disguised the child porn using titles like the names of famous musicians and “Guitar Lessons.”

The original bond for the man was set at $401,000, but the man’s attorney asked the Broward County judge to lower the bail amount due to the fact that the man has been a Broward County resident for 15 years and has no children or relatives with children.

Police use state of the art technology to scour the Internet for child pornography and the people viewing it. They can instantly get their hands on a list of IP addresses identifying anyone that has viewed child porn. Once law enforcement believes that you are in possession of child porn, they will execute a search warrant to comb through your home and personal property. The charges filed against you will depend on the amount of child pornography found in your possession, which includes individual files as well as any copies. The penalties associated with the charges can increase based on the number of images or videos recovered from your home or computer as well as the age of the children. Depending on the amount of child porn found in your possession and whether you face charges of distributing or transmitting child pornography, you may be subject to stiff fines and up to life in prison.
