Man Wanted on Child Porn Charges in California Arrested in Florida Keys

A 58-year-old man wanted by California authorities on child pornography charges has been arrested in the Florida Keys.

The man was arrested Friday on Stock Island. He has been wanted by police in Chico, California, since 2016 on charges of sexually soliciting a minor under the age of 14, engaging in sex acts with a minor and possession of child pornography.

A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said deputies were called to an alarm on Shrimp Road and found a man in an unlocked trailer on the side of the property.

Federal authorities assisted in the investigation, and deputies were able to identify the man.

California authorities claim the man didn’t show up to a court hearing, and his vehicle was found parked on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The man was being held without bond at the Stock Island jail and will be returned to California to face charges there.

Child porn charges are very serious, and often charged in federal court. Both society and the court are not favorable to child sex crimes and an accusation of child pornography charges can affect every aspect of your life, including your job, your relationship with friends and family members, and even your role in the community. Anyone charged with a child pornography crime needs to act fast and seek the help of our Florida Child Porn Defense Attorneys at Whittel & Melton.

A conviction for a federal child pornography offense can carry a substantial amount of prison time. A person who is convicted of knowingly possessing child pornography can be sentenced anywhere from 10 to 20 years in prison. A person who is convicted of distributing or receiving child pornography faces a 5 to 20 year prison sentence. The sentences can be drastically increased for a person with a prior conviction. There are also fines and restitution payments that are often required, and being convicted of a child pornography offense in federal court will require registration as a sex offender.
