Man Accused of Sex Crime Arrested While Allegedly Trying to Flee to Mexico

A Brevard County youth basketball coach who was wanted on a warrant concerning lewd and lascivious molestation was arrested in Texas while trying to flee to Mexico, according to reports.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release stating that the office’s GameOver Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested the 51-year-old on Friday at a Texas hotel and booked him without incident.

The investigation began in February after a juvenile accused the man of engaging in inappropriate activities when he spent the night at the man’s Malabar home. The man allegedly hosted sleepovers for his team members and friends of his children often.

The man is being held in a Texas jail on $750,000 bond and is awaiting extradition to Brevard County.

Sex crimes are punished extremely harshly and the sad truth is that many innocent people are in prison today in Florida and across the country, serving time for crimes they did not commit. With that said, it usually never pays to flee from police. It will not help your case, and you are likely to end up with additional charges, including fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.

It is not uncommon for children to make up stories when they are mad at an adult. In some cases, kids can be coerced by their parents or other adults who are out for revenge. Sex crimes are some of the most difficult to prosecute and defend, and the success of a case all depends on the specifics details, physical evidence, and various other factors.
