Man Arrested for Voyeurism, Alleged Victim Was 15

A 20-year-old Gainesville man was arrested Monday and charged with voyeurism and burglary of an occupied dwelling after he allegedly snuck onto a lawn and peered at a teenager through her bedroom window.

According to police reports, the man either scaled a 6-foot fence or entered through a closed gate to get into the backyard of the teen’s home. He allegedly watched the 15-year-old teen through her window secretly and was spotted by the girl’s mother who reported the incident to police.

The report indicates that evidence was supposedly collected and the man was contacted by police and eventually arrested.

Voyeurism is usually an embarrassing charge that can sometimes ruin your personal and professional reputation. The crime of voyeurism is committed when a person is found to have a lewd, lascivious or indecent intent, clandestinely watches another and the person being watched is in a location that has a reasonable expectation of privacy. Spying on someone in a state of undress, partaking in an intimate act, bathing or undressing are all forms of voyeurism if witnessed, recorded, photographed, videotaped or filmed in a non-public place. It is important to note that it is perfectly legal to view someone in public; however, peeping into someone’s private home without their consent is not.

Voyeurism is usually a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 364 days in county jail, but certain aspects can bump the charge up to a felony.
