Sabado Gigante Actor Convicted in Palm Beach County Child Porn Case

Former “Sabado Gigante” star Adonis Losada was found guilty last month of 66 counts of child pornography after a week-long trial in Palm Beach County.

Six jurors convicted Losada of the third-degree felonies that will land him behind bars for at least 44 years in prison when he is sentenced later this month.

Losada played the role of laughable, gawky abuela Doña Concha on the Univision variety show “Sabado Gigante. ” He was on the show until his 2009 arrest resulting from an undercover investigation by the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Sexual Predator Enforcement squad.

The 49-year-old former star acted as his own attorney during his trial after he fired his Miami-based private attorney hired by his family.

Losada rejected a 20-year plea offer from prosecutors before the trial began.

Several experts confirmed that Losada was mentally competent to stand trial, but the Palm Beach County circuit judge hearing the case temporarily halted the trial to order another emergency evaluation. Another psychologist apparently found Losada competent and the trial was set to continue, but Losada said he no longer wanted to be present for the proceedings.

After allegedly flailing his arms in the courtroom, sheriff’s deputies removed him from the courtroom, and he watched part of the proceedings from closed-circuit television.

Prosecutors entered into evidence a series of graphic photos apparently recovered from Losada’s computer, including images of adults engaged in graphic sex with children and babies.

Prosecutors allege that Losada shared the images with an undercover Boynton Beach Police detective masquerading as a fellow member of an internet chat room for adults interested in sex with children.

Losada returned to court for the rest of his trial, and delivered his own closing argument.

The jurors reached a quick decision, claiming the evidence was too overwhelming to ignore.

After being found guilty, Losada returned to jail, where he will remain until his sentencing hearing March 23. He faces up to a possible 330 years in prison on the 66 third-degree felony charges, however the minimum recommended sentence is 44 years. He also faces charges in a related Miami-Dade County case.
